Party With Consent Teams Up with More than “No” to Launch First PSA

At the End of January, Party With Consent launched its first PSA. It all started with PWC supporter Madeline Harris said her organization More than “No” would love to collaborate on a PSA. And after many meetings, the rest is history! Check it out below and share it on your social networks if you’re as pumped about the message as we are. And we pretty pumped. Cuz we, like, made it. платья оптом купить реєстрація логотипу податкова...

Party With Consent Highlighted in The Atlantic Monthly

We are extremely thankful to be featured in the December/January Atlantic Magazine. Check out the link here (http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2015/01/the-bro-whisperer/383506/). We had to pinch ourselves when reading the fourth paragraph, detailing Michael Kimmel’s goals in creating the Center for the Study of Men and Masculinties at SUNY Stony Brook, “For his part, Kimmel, who is the founder of Stony Brook’s new Center for the Study of Men and Masculinities, says he hopes to “increase the [Party With Consent efforts]” in the world. More specifically, he is preparing to survey college campuses across the country in order to discover the best male-oriented efforts to prevent sexual assault, and then replicate them nationwide. As the group discusses ways of discouraging sexual misconduct, he suggests that young men are reluctant to give up the traditional notion of being a man. “I can’t sell this idea to men—the end of manhood. They’re sitting there going, ‘It’s the only thing I got!’ ” He is practically shouting in his Brooklyn accent, grabbing at his water bottle as if it were a symbol of embattled manliness. “ ‘You’re going to tell me to throw this away? I’ll have nothing!’ ” Michael Kimmel’s work has been a foundation of our work at Party With Consent since day 1. платье оптом украина регистрация логотипа оскарження податкового повідомлення...
One step at a time

One step at a time

By: Sydney Giller “It starts with one,” Jared, the Resident Director for a first residence hall here at Union, told us. “You get one person here and you change one life. The next time they bring one person and two becomes four and then six and so on.” Collectively that was the hardest thing for the four of us to hear, and by four of us I mean three of my closest friends and myself, the newly formed Committee on Consent Education and Awareness. We had and still have one goal, to stop sexual assault. Tying up our hair in our red and white polka dot Rosie the Riveter headbands we pushed our sleeves up and put together the first annual Sexual Assault Awareness Week (SAAW). Weeks prior to this were spent scheduling meetings at 10 O’clock at night, calling speakers, making flyers, and reaching out to the entire student body. Filling the schedule became the trickiest part; to kick it off we reached out to a friend with a black belt in tae-kwon-do asking her to teach a self-defense class. This was going to be the start to the week that changed our lives. Sexual Assault and Consent in the LGBTQ community was then planned and lead by the student run group SAFE (Student Allies For Equality). The next day was a showing of the documentary Brave Miss World held in our campus auditorium. That day marked the third day of SAAW, the 496th cup of coffee consumed, and the third consecutive day of no sleep. That day told us everything we needed to know about being an...

13 Days of Violence Opening Party! Featuring Party With Consent

Thursday, December 11th was the opening of a freshly-curated exhibit 13 Days of Violence. Friend of Party With Consent, Sara Catalan curated the exhibit with pieces by artists from Spain to the Canary Island. The theme of the exhibit was visual art as a platform to show the epidemic of men’s violence against women. Jonathan Kalin, founder of Party With Consent, was fortunate enough to be asked to speak at the opening party of the exhibit. Kalin explained the story of how Party With Consent came to be and concluded, “my effort in preventing men’s violence against women is to reveal to men that a non-violent life should not only be labeled as the right thing to do or the responsible thing to do. Living in communities free from domestic violence and sexual assault is connected to our own liberation.” Check out 13 Days of Violence before it closes this Thursday! Party With Consent featured at R Culture the Play

Party With Consent was fortunate to be featured at R Culture the Play! The performance shined a light on how pervasive rape culture is throughout our day to day lives. To learn more about R Culture the Play check out their website at http://www.rculturetheplay.com/. PWC founder, Jonathan Kalin, was a part of an incredible “talk-back” amongst many other amazing sexual assault prevention/anti-sexist professionals. Kalin spoke about a scene from the play with a football coach and two players. The coach was telling his players to go out and “dominant” the other team. Kalin explained his particularly strong connection to this scene, “the scene between the football coach and the two players sent a particularly powerful message. Athletics teach young boys team work, self-discipline, and leadership, yet there are subtle messages in athletics that teach young people dominance, embarrassing others, and making everything a competition. Our culture has highlighted the positive lessons plenty, but we often neglect to bring up the negative lessons until we have to (see Domestic Violence in the NFL).” Thank you to the R Culture team for including Party With Consent in your amazing performance! Interview with Fritz Parker

Interview with Fritz Parker

The other day we had the pleasure of being able to do a quick interview one of Party With Consent’s past contributors, David (Fritz) Parker. For those who don’t know Fritz, you can check out his profile on the PWC Contributors page! He has done some incredible work for Party With Consent in the past and we’re grateful for getting the chance to work with him. How did you first get involved with PWC? As part of a blogging project for a crowdfunding startup, I had the occasion to interview Jonathan about his experience in a student pitch competition. I dug the idea of Party With Consent, and was instantly wanted to help out. What does PWC mean to you? PWC means bringing the message of sexual violence prevention to the people. It means breaking down the barriers between activists and everyone else, and fighting the assumption that people who care about preventing sexual violence are anti-fun, anti-men or anti-parties. If you could have any substance come out of your belly button, what would it be? Water. Water is good. юбки оптом регистрация торговых марок киев юридическое сопровождение...

Party With Consent Represented at The Feminist Dialogue’s #TheHive

On November 15th, alongside co-facilitator author of “Man Alive” Thomas Page McBee, Party With Consent founder Jonathan Kalin co-facilitated a riveting conversation about masculinity. During the dialogue Kalin mentioned, “I see my work with Party With Consent as asking more questions than giving answers. Specifically with masculinity, I tend to ask questions as simple as ‘What does it mean to be a man?’ or when prompted, ‘Why is that ‘manly’? We pick up so many ideas about gender subconsciously through cultural norms, the media, and our peers that most struggle to remember where, when or how they learned these definitions. I’ve found this to be a more educative starting place than telling men about male privilege or sexism.” #TheHive meets monthly and you can learn more about it and The Feminist Dialogue at their website (http://www.feministdialogue.org/). Check out this article in the New York Times to learn more about McBee’s book “Man Alive” (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/16/books/review/man-alive-by-thomas-page-mcbee.html?_r=0) женские юбки оптом реєстрація торговельної марки юридическое обслуживание...

Party With Consent Founder Keynotes My Sister’s Place Luncheon

On October 30th in Purchase, New York, PWC Founder Jonathan Kalin shared the stage with 3-time Gold Medalist Swimmer and Title IX Civil Rights Attorney, Nancy Hogshead-Makar at the My Sister’s Place Luncheon. In front of a crowd of over 350, Kalin shared his story creating the Party With Consent movement dating back to when his father died suddenly in a car accident when he was 12 years-old. Kalin explained, “After my father died, I subconsciously learned a lot about gender. I saw my mother debunk every myth that a widowed woman needs a man to complete her and had to learn what it meant to be a ‘man’ on my own.” At the end of the event, Kalin shared that every person who made a donation to My Sister’s Place would get a Party With Consent tank in return. The response was overwhelmingly positive with volunteers running out of certain sizes of the tanks. Party With Consent in the October issue of Seventeen Magazine

Party With Consent has been featured in Seventeen Magazine! In a two page-spread amongst other men-led sexual assault prevention campaigns, reporter Lisa Freedman recounted the story of Party With Consent’s creation. In the article, PWC founder Jonathan Kalin was quoted, “It’s not about guys being heroes, or women being helpless. Men commit the majority of sexual violence, so we must do something to hold each other accountable.” Interested in having Kalin, or another Party With Consent team member, speak at your campus or high school?
